Shogakukan's manga site Big Comics opens its introduction to the series with a line telling readers to be disillusioned with Shuzo Oshimi, and describes the book as a memoir by the artist of The Flowers of Evil and Blood on the Tracks. The Japanese title is ็ฌใใฎ้ณ, Mabataki no Oto; VIZ's English title is Sound of a Blink.
The narrator shares the author's name. Shuzo is in college, has a serious girlfriend and has just won his first manga award, and life is going well. Then his younger brother is diagnosed with a brain tumour, and Shuzo is pulled back into the complicated family dynamics of his childhood. VIZ calls the book a raw, intimate coming-of-age memoir and asks how you live when each day might be your brother's last.
Oshimi was born in 1981 and grew up in Kiryu, a rural town in Gunma prefecture. According to VIZ's author profile, much of his fiction draws on childhood and personal experience. He debuted in 2002; The Flowers of Evil became a television anime in 2013 and a live-action film in 2019, and Vertical published it in English.
The series began in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior in December 2024. The issue that went on sale on 27 February 2026 announced that it would end in two chapters, and it closed at chapter 32. Volume 4, published on 30 March, is the last. VIZ Media's volume 1, published on 15 September and labelled a series debut, runs 208 pages and is rated Mature.
