A literary boy at risk of repeating a year joins the student council for his grades and finds it full of eccentrics

The TV anime Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! aired its first episode in the late-night 24:30 slot on Saturday, 3 October, on four Japanese stations including Tokyo MX and BS11. AT-X airs the uncensored version every Tuesday at 11:30 p.m., starting on 6 October. The series has two versions: a TV broadcast version for terrestrial television and an uncensored version that cannot be seen on terrestrial television. The uncensored version can be streamed only on select services, such as d Anime Store and AnimeFesta. In Korea, Laftel released the first episode on 5 October and rates the series for adults only.

The story is set at Fujinasu Academy, a private school on the edge of town known for sending students to top universities. Ume Mizunoe, a first-year high school student, excels at Japanese enough to have won literary awards several times, but his science grades are so low that he risks not advancing to the next year. He becomes the student council secretary to avoid repeating a year and improve his school record, only to discover that every member is an eccentric. Waiting for him are Hisako Kotobuki, the charismatic third-year high school student council president who is secretly a bit of a pervert; Arisu Terui, the intimidating yet kind and demure treasurer; Tan Otori, a cheeky but cute boy; and Komaro Michinoku, the general affairs officer who is as tiny as an abandoned kitten.

Muchimaro's original is a four-panel manga that has been serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since the combined issue 22/23 of 2022. It strings together the student council members' ordinary days in short four-panel strips, with romantic feelings emerging along the way. In Japan, volume 1 was released on 16 September 2022, and volume 13 on 17 August 2026. The manga won first place in the comics division of the Next Manga Award 2023. Aniplex states in its introduction to the series that the collected volumes have surpassed 2.7 million copies in circulation. A 172-page official character book will also be released on 16 October.

Animation production is handled by Passione. Naoyuki Tatsuwa directs, Ryo Imamura handles character design and serves as chief animation director, Masahiro Yokotani handles series composition and scripts, and Tomoki Kikuya provides the music. Ume is voiced by Shogo Sakata, Hisako by Haruka Shiraishi, Komaro by Miyu Tomita, Tan by Hiyori Kono, and Arisu by Shizuka Ishigami. The opening song is "風の中は走るっきゃないっ！" by 三月のパンタシア (Sangatsu no Phantasia), and the ending song is "Pi" (ぴ) by Akari Nanawo. Show Yamamoto wrote the lyrics, composed the music and arranged the ending song.

Somy Media publishes the Korean edition under its S Comics label with the title "학생회에도 구멍은 있다!". Volume 1 came out in August 2023, while volume 12 was released in print in July 2026 and as an ebook in August. RIDI sells both the 12 collected volumes and a serialized edition divided into individual chapters. If you want to move on to the manga after watching the anime, start with volume 1. The first subtitle of the anime's first episode is identical to the title of the manga's first chapter. This means the anime also begins with the first chapter of the serialization. There has been no official announcement yet of how many manga volumes the anime will cover.
