Mask Girl (๋งˆ์Šคํฌ๊ฑธ), written by Maemi and drawn by Huise, was the pairโ€™s debut. It began in 2015 on Best Challenge, Naverโ€™s board for amateur serials, was promoted to the main Naver Webtoon lineup in August of that year, and ended on June 9, 2018 after 130 episodes. The lead, Kim Mo-mi, is an ordinary office worker by day and by night a BJ, the Korean term for a live-streaming host, who broadcasts with her face hidden behind a mask. She has lived with a complex about her looks, and when the streams drag her into a crime, the story turns from black comedy into a crime thriller. The webtoon is rated for adults, so reading it on Naver requires a login and age verification.

The webtoon became a seven-episode Netflix series on August 18, 2023, written and directed by Kim Yong-hoon. The talking point was one role played by three actors. Lee Han-byeol played Mo-mi in her office years, Nana played her after she changed her face, and Go Hyun-jung played her in prison. Ahn Jae-hong played her coworker Joo Oh-nam and Yeom Hye-ran played his mother, Kim Kyung-ja. In its second week the series recorded 7.4 million views, topped Netflixโ€™s global top 10 for non-English TV, and made the top 10 in 72 countries.

The popularity flowed straight back to the source. According to Naver Webtoon, in the ten days after the release (August 19 to 28) the webtoonโ€™s domestic transaction value was 166 times that of the same period a month earlier, and page views rose 121 times. On Line Manga in Japan, transactions rose 112 times. At the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards on May 7, 2024, Ahn Jae-hong won Best Supporting Actor and Yeom Hye-ran won Best Supporting Actress in the television categories.

As of August 2026 there has been no announcement of a second season or a remake. What has changed is that all of the pairโ€™s work is now complete. Their second collaboration, The Great Bang Ok-sook (์œ„๋Œ€ํ•œ ๋ฐฉ์˜ฅ์ˆ™), ended in September 2020 at 74 episodes, and their third, Pari People (ํŒ”์ดํ”ผํ”Œ), ended in March 2025 at 146 episodes. This is the first time you can read all three Maemi and Huise series, starting with Mask Girl, from beginning to end.

The original is available from episode one on Naver Webtoon. If you watched the series first, it helps to know that the webtoon is classed as a black comedy thriller. Where the show wandered across genres and widened each characterโ€™s backstory, the comic pushes the events forward at a faster clip. (As of August 21, 2026)
