Desir Herrman is a mage whose magic reads an opponent's spell and takes it apart. The Japanese official site introduces him as a young man who, moments from death in the final battle of the Shadow Labyrinth, the disaster that brought the world to its end, went back 13 years into the past. KakaoPage's description of the series adds that he was one of the six people who survived to the very end of the Labyrinth, and that when he opened his eyes again he was back at the moment he entered Hebrion, the empire's finest magic academy. Three years remain before the Shadow World appears.
Once he is back, Desir finds the companions who fought beside him in the future that ended. Romantica Eru, who uses wind magic, carried a sense of inferiority about her common birth, and in that future she died fighting at Desir's side. Pram Schnaizer, a swordsman built on speed, had little confidence, but grows into real talent under the guidance of Desir, who already knows what Pram will go on to do. Azest Kingscrown, a noble who has mastered both ice magic and the sword, kept everyone at arm's length until recognising Desir's analytical mind and conviction and choosing to join the party. The official introduction to season 2 opens with Desir, now joined by three companions from his days at Hebrion Academy, racing to clear a Shadow World that has suddenly appeared. In a brief moment of calm he is haunted by a nightmare of Romantica's death, and the Demon of Ruin shows itself. In that introduction, Desir calls the demon Romantica's foe.
The anime is produced by Arvo Animation and directed by Taishi Kawaguchi. The first season began airing in Japan in October 2023, and Laftel in Korea carries both a subtitled version and a Korean dub. In Japan, Fuji TV has been rerunning the first season since 2 July, late on Thursday nights at 25:45.
Season 2 starts on 7 October in +Ultra, Fuji TV's anime block, airing late on Wednesday nights at 24:45. Kansai TV follows from 8 October, and Tokai TV and AT-X from 10 October. Streaming begins first on services including d Anime Store and U-NEXT at 25:15 on 7 October. The second PV, released on 15 September, carried the first audio of the opening theme, Sorrow. FLOW, who wrote GET BACK for the first season, is back for the song, and the ending theme, Everlasting, is sung by krage.
The webtoon itself was written by Usonan and drawn by Wookjakga. The Japanese official site points readers in Japan to Piccoma, and Yen Press lists the English edition up to volume 6. The broadcast and streaming details on the official site cover Japan only for now, so for English readers the Yen Press volumes are the clearest way into Desir's story before October.
