Overgeared is set inside Satisfy, a virtual reality game played by two billion people around the world. According to the anime's introduction, the wealth and fame you earn in the game carry straight over into real life. Shin Youngwoo logs in as Grid, hoping for one lucky break that will turn his going-nowhere life around. The Kakao Webtoon synopsis describes a man who drags bad luck with him in the real world and in the game alike, and who lives with debt collectors at his back.
His luck turns at the end of a brutal quest. A chance find called Pagma's Rare Book lets him change into the only legendary class among more than two billion players: Pagma's Descendant, heir to a legendary blacksmith. The catch is that his level drops below zero and he has to start over with barely a thread on him. So Grid decides, "If I can't get strong items, I'll make them." The official introduction sums him up as greedy and calculating, yet with an odd stubbornness and a deep streak of loyalty.
The anime is produced at J.C.Staff and directed by Ayako Kono. Kenta Ihara handles series composition, Ryousuke Tanigawa designs the characters and Yoshiaki Fujisawa writes the music. Tatsumaru Tachibana voices Grid, Asami Seto plays Yura and Riho Sugiyama plays Jishuka. The third trailer came out on 13 September, together with two new cast members: Yuki Murata as Irene and Yurika Hirayama as Isabel. Pony Canyon notes that the trailer includes cuts hinting at a romance as Grid and Irene grow closer. The opening theme is "SATISFY" by Re:name, and the ending is "Ray of Emotion" by Tao.
In Japan, Prime Video streams each episode ahead of TV from 27 September, Sundays at 23:30. The broadcast starts on 2 October on Tokyo MX and BS11, Fridays at 23:30, with AT-X following from 5 October on Mondays at 22:30. Other streaming services join from 4 October. An advance screening in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, on 13 September showed the first three episodes. Outside Japan, Anime News Network reports that Crunchyroll will stream the series.
The webtoon began on KakaoPage in April 2020, adapted by Monohumbug of REDICE STUDIO and drawn by Team Argo from Saenal's web novel. REDICE STUDIO is also the studio behind the Solo Leveling and Tomb Raider King webtoons. Pony Canyon's announcement says the series has collected 81.89 million hearts on the Japanese platform Piccoma as of May 2026 and won the Piccoma AWARD 2023.
