A Bona fide Killer (์ ๋ถ๋ ํฌ๋ฌ), written by YOON and drawn by Geomddung, started on Kakao Webtoon in May 2020 and is still running. The setup: a legendary sniper vanished from the trade one day, and the reason turned out to be childbirth and child-rearing. The lead, Yu Bo-na, is an ordinary housewife with a four-year-old daughter and a husband, and she returns to the field after three years of parental leave. It is a story about a working mother with the deadliest job in the world trying to keep a work-life balance, so a shoot-out and daycare pickup can land in the same episode. Cumulative views have passed 190 million.
MBC turned it into a Friday-Saturday drama that premiered on July 31, 2026. Gong Hyo-jin plays Yu Bo-na, her first MBC drama in about fifteen years. Jung Jun-won plays Kwon Tae-seong, Sung Dong-il plays Kim Bong-pal, and Lee Sang-yi also stars. The first episode drew 7.4% nationwide and 6.8% in the Seoul metro area according to Nielsen Korea, peaking at 9.4%, and the show crossed 10% by its sixth episode.
The dramaโs effect on the source is measurable too. After the broadcast began, the webtoonโs views rose to ten times the level of the seven days before it. The creators said the action scenes, which are hard to capture fully in drawings, came alive in live action. It is the familiar pattern of a webtoon adaptation sending viewers back to the original.
The webtoon is on Kakao Webtoon and KakaoPage, and the English edition is on Tapas under the title A Bona fide Killer. The drama is still airing, so reading ahead in the webtoon is one way to learn how things turn out, with the caveat that the webtoon itself has not ended either. (As of August 21, 2026)
