Our Beloved Summer (๊ทธ ํ•ด ์šฐ๋ฆฌ๋Š”) is a sixteen-episode SBS drama that aired on Mondays and Tuesdays from December 6, 2021 to January 25, 2022. Kim Yoon-jin directed, Lee Na-eun wrote, and Choi Woo-shik played Choi Ung, Kim Da-mi played Kook Yeon-soo, Kim Sung-cheol played Kim Ji-ung, and Roh Jeong-eui played NJ. Studio N and Super Moon Pictures produced it. In high school the top student and the bottom student were filmed together for a youth documentary; ten years later the documentary goes viral again and the two, now ex-lovers, are put back in front of the camera. Domestic ratings were modest, a 3.9% nationwide average with the finale at 5.9%, but the series found a long life abroad through Netflix.

One thing needs to be said clearly. This drama was not adapted from a webtoon. It was the first original drama from Studio N, the video production subsidiary of Naver Webtoon, and a webtoon set in the same world was prepared alongside it from the planning stage. That webtoon is Our Beloved Summer: I Like Early Summer! (๊ทธ ํ•ด ์šฐ๋ฆฌ๋Š” - ์ดˆ์—ฌ๋ฆ„์ด ์ข‹์•„!), written and drawn by Han Kyung-chal. It opened on Naver Webtoon on November 6, 2021, updating every Sunday, exactly one month before the drama premiered, and finished with its twentieth episode on March 19, 2022. A prequel is a story set before the main work, and the division of labor here was simple: the webtoon covers how the two met in high school, and the drama covers their reunion in their late twenties.

So the webtoon is better read as โ€œbefore episode oneโ€ than as source material. Choi Ungโ€™s dream is to idle pleasantly and die comfortably; Kook Yeon-soo has never lived a single minute halfway. For the documentary they are paired up and have to spend a month together, and the fights start on day one. What the drama shows in brief flashbacks to the decade-old footage, the webtoon fills in across twenty episodes. It is rated for all ages.

As of August 2026 there has been no announcement of a second season or a remake. The drama is still on Netflix, and the webtoon is available from episode one on Naver Webtoon and Naver Series, with an English edition on WEBTOON. If you have finished the drama, the webtoon works as an epilogue in reverse; if you read the webtoon first and then watch the documentary scenes in episode one, the seam between the two becomes visible right away.
