AnimeJapan is the anime trade fair held in Tokyo every spring. The 2025 edition ran its usual poll asking which manga people most want to see animated, 156,909 votes came in, and Nue's Exorcist finished first. Earlier winners of the same poll include Komi Can't Communicate (2020) and The Dangers in My Heart (2021). As of 15 September 2026 the series' official page still lists no anime.
Gakuro Yajima has been able to see spirits since he was small. In this story they are beings drawn to human sadness and anger. On his first day of high school he walks into a room nobody else can see, and inside is Nue, a female spirit who loves video games. She asks him to clear the school of spirits, and the two become a modern-day exorcist team.
Kota Kawae won a Jump New World Manga Award in 2019 with the one-shot Tabidachi no Yoru (The Night of Departure). The official series page also lists a 2022 one-shot, ้ตบใๅฎถ, printed in issue 15 of Weekly Shonen Jump that year. Serialisation began in issue 24 of 2023, and the series marked its third anniversary this year with a character popularity poll split into two divisions: characters with names, and characters without.
In Japan volume 16 went on sale on 4 September, with volume 17 scheduled for 4 November. VIZ Media, which publishes Shueisha's manga in English, released volume 8 three days earlier, on 1 September. That volume covers Nue's reunion with Raisei, the contractor she last saw sixty years ago, and it came out in Japan in February 2025. The English edition still trails the Japanese one by eight volumes.
When volume 11 came out, Shueisha's Jump Channel marked it with a PV styled like a dating sim. In Korea, D&C Media has published the series as ๋์์ ์์์ฌ since October 2024. VIZ carries the English chapters on its Shonen Jump service.
