Lee Hyeโs A Good Day to Be a Dog (์ค๋๋ ์ฌ๋์ค๋ฝ๊ฐ) is a romantic fantasy webtoon that started on Naver Webtoon on August 5, 2017 and updated every Sunday. Its heroine, Han Hae-na, teaches Korean at a high school. Because of a curse passed down through her family, kissing a man turns her into a dog every night. To break it she has to kiss the same person again while in dog form, and the man she kissed on a drunken night happens to be Jin Seo-won, the math teacher down the hall. Seo-won, because of something that happened in his childhood, is terrified of dogs. A woman who wants the curse gone and a man who cannot go near a dog: that push and pull is the spine of the story. The Korean title is a pun that folds the word for dog into the phrase โlovely again today.โ
The run was short. The main story ended with episode 88 on April 6, 2019, four side-story episodes followed through May 4, and an afterword went up on May 11, for a total of 93 installments on Naver Webtoon. The English edition is on WEBTOON as A Good Day to Be a Dog, and in Japan it was introduced as Wonderful Days. At one episode a week for just under two years, it is the kind of length someone who got curious after the drama can finish in a weekend.
The drama aired on MBC from October 11, 2023 to January 10, 2024 as a fourteen-episode Wednesday series. Kim Dae-woong directed, Baek In-ah wrote it, and the budget was 5 billion won. Park Gyu-young played Han Hae-na, Cha Eun-woo played Jin Seo-won, Lee Hyun-woo played the history teacher Lee Bo-gyeom, and Yoon Hyun-soo played Choi Yul, Seo-wonโs nephew and Hae-naโs student. The drama traces the curse back through the leadsโ past lives as Su-hyeon and Mak-sun in the Joseon era. Ratings were low: 2.2% for the premiere, a peak of 2.8%, and 1.5% for the finale (Nielsen Korea, nationwide).
Outside Korea the response was different. The series streamed on Rakuten Viki and Viu, and in Taiwan friDay Video carried it exclusively under the title ็ฌ็ณปๆไบบ. Forbes placed it fifteenth among the twenty best Korean dramas of 2023, and Rolling Stone included it in its ten best South Korean shows of the year. Park Gyu-young won the Excellence Award for an actress in a miniseries at the 2023 MBC Drama Awards.
As of August 2026 there is no confirmed news of a second season or a remake. There is still a reason to read it now. The original keeps its focus on the goings-on at school and the shift in the two leadsโ feelings, and it wraps up cleanly within its 88 episodes.
