The English edition is only at volume 5, but in Japan the story is already over. VIZ Media's 1 September release was volume 5, and Shueisha published volume 8, the last, on 4 September 2025. Volume 5 brings in Nao's grandfather, whose voice alone can kill a mosquito, and sends Inukai toward an overseas posting that triggers his kaiju form. A little over a year after the manga ended, on 6 October, the TV anime begins.
The setting is Chinjuku, an entertainment district that never sleeps. Meguru Chojo can read minds, see at a distance and send thoughts, and he works out of a run-down police box where the whole neighbourhood dislikes him. Psychic investigators are not supposed to use their powers to lie and cheat; Chojo does, without hesitation. His rookie partner Nao Ippongi is a judo girl whose throws, chokes and joint locks are all in working order.
Shun Numa's first full-length series was Samon the Summoner, a supernatural school comedy that also ran in Weekly Shonen Jump, and Chojo is the first of his works to appear in English. The character debuted in a one-shot in the combined issue 21-22 of 2023, and the serial began in issue 11 of 2024. Japanese volume 6 has Samon, the lead of the earlier series, move in next door and start a business built on his shady demonic powers, while "that great senior" who keeps a police box in front of Kameari Park drops in as well.
The anime airs Tuesdays at 23:00 on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV network, in the block the broadcaster runs for Tuesday-night anime. Arvo Animation produces it, Yusuke Kobayashi voices Chojo and Riko Aono voices Ippongi.
Toshiya Miyata of the idol group Kis-My-Ft2 auditioned for the part of Keinain and got it, and he also serves as the show's PR ambassador. A preview screening of episode 1 with a stage greeting by the cast took place on 8 September at a cinema in Odaiba.
The police themselves are part of the promotion. At the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026, the Good Smile Company booth is handing out clear files made with the Kyoto Prefectural Police and Kyoto City, warning about special fraud and the recruitment of young people into so-called dark part-time jobs.
