Kazune Kawahara made her debut in 1991. Sensei!, which she began in 1996, became a live-action film in 2017, and High School Debut reached cinemas in 2011. She also wrote the story for My Love Story!!, drawn by Aruko, which took the shojo category of the 37th Kodansha Manga Award and was adapted as both a TV anime and a live-action film in 2015.
A Star Brighter Than the Sun has run in Shueisha's shojo magazine Bessatsu Margaret since 2021. Sae Iwata has always been taller and sturdier than other girls. The boy she liked, Koki Kamishiro, was small and slight, the kind of kid she wanted to look out for. Then he shot up, became popular, and drifted out of her reach. At the last sports festival of middle school the two end up on the same team, and a crush she had parked starts moving again.
Studio KAI animated the TV series, which began on TBS on 2 October 2025 in a Thursday slot at 23:56. Yasuhiro Nakanishi handled series composition. The official site now announces that a second season has been greenlit.
VIZ publishes the English edition under its Shojo Beat imprint. Volume 7 came out on 1 September and volume 8 is open for pre-order. Japan is well ahead: volume 15 goes on sale there on 25 September. In Korea the series is published by Daewon C.I.
Bessatsu Margaret's official YouTube channel carries a special PV voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro and Shunsuke Takeuchi.
