Yuki Tabataโs Black Clover began in Weekly Shonen Jump on 16 February 2015 and has been collected into 38 volumes; AniList records the main serialisation as running to May 2026. The Clover Kingdom sorts people by how much magic they have, and that sorting decides both status and prospects.
Asta and Yuno are abandoned at the same church and, on the same day, say the same thing: they will become Wizard King, the highest position in the kingdom. Yuno is born with rare, enormous power. Asta is born with none. What Asta gets instead is a sword that cuts magic out of existence, which turns most fights in the series into a contest between casting bigger and erasing what has been cast.
The story is organised around knight squads, so the cast is large and each squad has a distinct temperament. A protagonist who shouts himself hoarse and refuses to stay down sets the tone. Animated series and a film followed.
