In the 22nd century, Japan has handed the question of guilt to a machine. The Sibyl System scans each citizenโ€™s mind for the pull toward crime and returns a figure, the Psycho-Pass of the title, and that figure decides how the person will be treated.

Anyone whose reading crosses the line can be taken down before a crime happens, and the taking down is not always gentle. The Inspectors who act on those readings work beside Enforcers, colleagues the job has worn cynical. What separates the hunter from the hunted is not conduct but the systemโ€™s verdict. Akane Tsunemori, Shinya Kougami, Nobuchika Ginoza and Shougo Makishima are the four names that move around that line.

The 22 episodes ran from 12 October 2012 to 22 March 2013 at Production I.G. Akira Amano supplied the original character designs, Makoto Fukami wrote most of the scripts, Yoshikazu Iwanami served as sound director, and the storyboards were split between Souichi Masui, who took five episodes, and Kouji Sawai, who took one. Action and thriller are the outer shape; what the series keeps pressing on is the interior of a society that has given its judgement away.
