An Auto Memories Doll writes to order, taking what one person wants to say and carrying it onto paper. Violet Evergarden, a young girl once known as the weapon, meets that trade at the CH Postal Service, where she has gone to begin again now that four years of fighting between the north and south of Telesis are over.
Kyoto Animation produced the show, and the thirteen episodes were broadcast between 11 January and 5 April 2018. Reiko Yoshida wrote the series composition and most of the scripts, the opening two episodes and the finale among them. Yasuhiro Takemoto storyboarded episodes four and nine, while Seiya Kumano contributed key animation to episodes seven, ten and eleven. Minori Chihara performs the ending theme.
Three genre labels sit on the series at once: drama, fantasy and slice of life. Telesis is an invented continent, and its war is finished before Violet reaches the postal service. What holds her there is the Dollsโ work itself, the writing done on somebody elseโs behalf.
