A jealous rival reaches for magic she has no business touching, and wakes up wearing someone else’s face. That swap is where Though I Am an Inept Villainess begins, on 12 July 2026. Keigetsu Shu wanted the life of Reirin Kou, the girl the palace adores. She gets the body, and everything that comes packed inside it.
What comes packed inside it is illness. Reirin’s frail constitution nearly finishes Keigetsu off. Reirin’s trouble takes a public form: the face she now wears belongs to a girl the palace has already written off, and she is the one hauled before a court to be judged for what Keigetsu did, with her life on the line.
The setting is an inner palace where daughters of the Five Clans compete for a place beside the crown prince. Doga Kobo animates it, with Mitsue Yamazaki directing, Yoshiko Nakamura writing the series composition, Ai Kikuchi adapting Kana Yuki’s original character designs, and Yukari Hashimoto scoring. Riri and Shin-U move along the edges of the two leads. Eleven episodes are planned, and the run is still under way.
