The setting is 2029. Networks blanket the planet and brains connect directly to machines, yet nations and ethnic groups persist, and crime grows in the gaps between them. Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg, leads an elite unit that includes Batou while pushing for a task force able to strike at threats before they take shape. Daisuke Aramaki works the same problem from a different chair.

This franchise has been redrawn repeatedly since the 1995 film, through the 2002 series and the 3DCG entries of the 2020s. What makes this version worth attention is the hand-drawn sensibility Science SARU brings to cyberpunk. The same studio made Dandadan, which gives a fair idea of the energy on offer.

Episodes work as self-contained cases, so prior knowledge is optional. Prime Video carries it internationally.
