The second season of The Elusive Samurai, adapted from Yusei Matsuiโs Weekly Shonen Jump manga, started on 17 July 2026 in Fuji TVโs Noitamina block. It runs twelve episodes, with CloverWorks animating again. Matsui is the same author who drew Assassination Classroom, which is not the tone you would guess from this one.
Tokiyuki Hojo was a real person: a son of Takatoki Hojo, the last regent of the Kamakura shogunate. When the shogunate collapsed in 1333 he escaped with little more than his life, around ten years old, and spent years working toward a return. The hook of the series is that fleeing is treated as a discipline rather than cowardice. The hero is not the best swordsman in the room, he is the one who reads terrain and timing better than anyone chasing him.
Season one took its time on the years under Yorishige Suwaโs protection. Season two widens the board, giving more space to companions such as Fubuki while the Ashikaga side of the conflict moves into view. It is a period piece animated with a bright, fast hand.
Crunchyroll carries the series internationally. Twelve episodes per season makes catching up an easy weekend.
